It was a very special afternoon on June 17 at Sydney Conservatorium when we premiered our “A Bass Affair” program. A varied array of instruments were on display:
- Bass violin
- Viola da gamba
- Theorbo
- Archlute
- Gallichon; and:
- Baroque guitar
In all my years of playing the viola da gamba I have not performed continuo and duets with a bass violin and doing just that with Tim Blomfield, and lutenist Tommie Andersson, was pure pleasure. And how beautifully did Josie Ryan sing? She is such a superb interpreter of French music.
