Fika – Elysian Fields

Fika (pron. ‘fee-ka) is Elysian Fields’ second CD. Drawing on band-leader Jenny Eriksson’s Swedish heritage, and the links other band members have to the Viking Lands, the recording is made up of music from, and inspired by, Scandinavia. The track list comprises charts by Norwegian jazz pianist/composer, Jan Gunnar Hoff and Sweden’s Esbjörn Svensson Trio (e.s.t.), gorgeous arrangements of Swedish folk songs by band members, and original compositions by Matt Keegan and Siebe Pogson. Produced by Matt Keegan, with sound engineering by Ritchie Belkner, the CD booklet features paintings by Swedish-Australian artist, Nils Gunnar Zander. ‘Fika’ is a Swedish term for time set aside for coffee, tea and pastries with friends and family. In the shadow of Covid-19, we wanted to produce a CD that brings people together around beautiful music!
