The Marais Project kicks of its 2015 season with a guest appearance at the second New Zealand International Early Music Festival (NZIEMF) to be held in Dunedin, New Zealand.
Renowned for its diverse and interesting performances of French baroque viola da gamba music, as well as bold initiatives such as introducing the electric viola da gamba to Australian audiences, The Marais Project will present a feature concert at the festival. Artistic Director Jennifer Eriksson will also lead an early music master class and provide continuo support for another event.
“The Festival in the brainchild of Artistic Director and Founder, Christopher John Clifford”, Jenny commented, “An English early musician who immigrated quite recently to New Zealand.” “He has worked long and hard to get the Festival up and running and we were thrilled to be asked to perform there.”
The original core Marais Project ensemble consisting of soprano Belinda Montgomery, gambists Eriksson and Catherine Upex and lutenist, Tommie Andersson will present a program titles “Viol Dreaming” featuring music from 3 of their CDs. “We are very much looking forward to our trip and to meeting New Zealand audiences and colleagues”, Eriksson enthused, “And I hope some Australian music lovers will be able to cross “the ditch” and join us there!”
